A DIY install may sound cheap at first but in reality it can work out very costly if you make a mistake. Before you make your decision, REALLY add up what it will cost, you will be surprised if you calculate ALL the parts. Is every last thing included? Like the little but expensive items, a sports cat converter, a new coolant reservoir, antifreeze, synthetic engine & gearbox oils, DOT 4 brake fluid or even a 6 speed gear knob? As you need to supply your own engine, remember it needs absolutely ALL the sensors i.e. Lambda, TPS etc if these are missing or broken they will cost over £600 alone.

More importantly, where do you take it if it goes wrong or simply won’t start? How many have they sold? How will you map the install? Are all the parts new or are some reconditioned or used? How long will you be without your car during the conversion, several weeks or even months? We appreciate you may want to do the conversion yourself simply as a “hobby” but if it’s down to cost it could work out more expensive than at first thought.
